Birthday Charts

The other day during math we were talking about charts and how they were a handy tool for recording information. We discussed the different types of information you could record using a chart or graph and it was then that we decided to make a chart and record all the birthdays in our class. We made a chart with the months across the top and on the side we numbered it 1-9. We were hoping that no more than 9 people would have the same birthday month or we'd run out of room!

We got our clipboards, pencils and charts and were ready to go. We thought that this was a pretty big job for just one person so we decided to do it with a partner. We all took turns asking each other when our birthday's were and then recorded each on our chart.

When we were all done with our class we decided it would be cool to add the 4yr old class birthdays to our chart as well. We asked Ms. Heidi if we could kindly interrupt her class and record the student birthdays on our chart. She obliged and we went in and rounded up another set of data. We were on a roll so we added the teacher and teaching assistant birthday to our charts as well.

After we were done we reviewed and discussed our charts and what they meant. We have them on display in our room. If you have time please stop by and take a look! Here are some pictures in the meantime:

If you comment and tell us when your birthday is we'll add you to our chart.

  2. Hey Kids, sounds like fun! I am a friend of Mr. Ben. I am living and teaching at a school in Warsaw, Poland. My birthday is November 8th. I will see if some Kindergarten classes from my school will give you their birthdays.

We hope the kindergarten classes at Mr. Bruce's school in Poland can give us their birthdays too.
