Sharing Our Writing and Pictures Using Instagram

We have just started using a private Instagram account in our kindergarten classroom. We are using this as a way to share pictures of our favorite things and as a way for us to start writing about these things. We talked about it and decided that we each are going to take just 1 picture a day and write a sentence or two about what it is or why it is special to us. So far we think it's going pretty well. Here are a couple pictures we have shared.

For now we are sharing our pictures and words with just a few of the kindergarten classes we follow on Twitter. They send us a follow request and if we know them well and talk about it with our teacher first we can allow them to see our pictures. We think it's a great way to practice our writing with and get some dialogue going with fellow kindergarteners. It may not seem like much to you, but when you're just learning how to write as we are, writing one whole sentence all by yourself is pretty cool! Our friends are able to leave comments on our pictures and we are able to do the same with their pictures. We love using pictures and words to communicate!
