Leaf Hunt

In furthering our discussion on trees we have talked more specifically about leaves. We've discussed things like; what were the different shapes, colors, and textures leaves could be and why. We decided to take a walk to see what different types of leaves we could find right outside our door. We were surprised to find quite a few! We each found one or two leaves that grabbed our interest and brought them back to the classroom. Once back we made leaf rubbings.

To make a leaf rubbing is actually quite easy. All we did was take our leaf and lay it on a flat surface like a table. Then we took a piece of paper and laid it as flat as we could over the leaf. We held it in place very tightly so that the paper and leaf would not move. You can even use tape to hold it tight if you like. Once the paper and leaf were held tightly in place we took a crayon and rubbed lightly over the area of the paper that was covering the leaf. The result was a really neat representation of the leaf. Using this method we could see the structure of the leaf very well. You should give it a try, it's easy and fun!
